Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Wedal Woods located?

Wedal Woods is located on Wedal Rd. in Washburn WI. We are:

For more information about the area visit our RESOURCES page.

What are the pods like?

Pods have their origin in the UK, and are often considered “glamping” structures like bell tents, yurts, and domes. They offer cozy comfort, some basic amenities, and solid protection from the elements. Each Pod sleeps two people –  three of our Pods have a queen-size bed and one Pod has two twin beds.

How are the pods at Wedal Woods different from a regular tent?

As a lodging option, we think of the Pods as better than a tent – but also better than a hotel! Unlike many other types of  “glamping” structures, the Pods at Wedal Woods are insulated, heated in the winter months, and equipped with electricity and Wi-Fi – making them habitable year-round. They offer solid protection from the elements, are equipped with a bed/bedding, a small fridge, and a Keurig beverage maker – all providing a comfortable and convenient lodging experience.

Is there Wi-Fi and electricity?

Yes. All four Pods are equipped with electricity and secure fiber optic internet, so you can decide how much you want to unplug during your stay.

Is the property suitable for children?

Yes. With adult supervision, the property can be a fun option for families. Since one of our Pods is equipped with two twin beds, parents can reserve that Pod for kids, while having their own with a queen bed nearby. The 35 acres of Wedal Woods offers an opportunity to meander and enjoy the property, but it is important to note that the terrain is varied and all hiking and exploring is undertaking at your own risk.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately, pets are not allowed.

Is there a place to get food or water on-site?

Each pod has a small fridge for guests’ own snacks, and a Keurig is available with a small selection of coffee, tea, or cocoa (enjoy in a handmade mug by a local ceramic artist!). It’s best if guests bring their own drinking water, but potable water is available at the spigot near the pole barn (see the site map). Wedal Woods is conveniently close to restaurants, coffee, bakeries, and many other shops in Washburn and Ashland.

Is Wedal Woods a good place to stay if I don't have a lot of camping gear?

Absolutely! Pods are a great fit for those who enjoy the outdoors but may not have much (or any) camping gear. Beds, bedding, a small fridge and a Keurig are provided in each Pod, so come enjoy the scenery and being in the woods without needing any extensive pre-planning or packing.

Are there other rules or guidelines I should be aware of?

Please refer to the site map to be respectful of the private residence on the property, and be mindful to stay within the 35 acres of Wedal Woods, the boundaries of which are marked.

We ask all guests observe the following:

  • Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 7 am.
  • No smoking is allowed on the premises.
  • No open flames inside the pods or outdoor campfires.
  • Keep all food, beverages, and trash secured inside the pod to avoid attracting local wildlife (including bears).
  • Practice “leave no trace” principles to help preserve the land and its wildlife.

For more information see our GUIDELINES & POLICIES

What should I know about the property and its surroundings?

The 35 acres of Wedal Woods are intentionally kept “wild” and feature varied terrain including ridges, ravines, and uneven ground. Trails are in their early stages of development, so hiking around the property is at your own risk. We ask for patience as trail building is an ongoing project! Like any outing in the Northwoods, wearing sturdy shoes with good tread and bringing insect repellent is recommended.

For Wedal Woods to maintain good relationships with its neighbors, it’s required that guests stay within the 35 acres of the property, the boundaries of which are marked.

Is there parking?

Yes! Upon arrival, there is ample space right behind each Pod for guests to park. There are also two other nearby areas for overflow parking for larger vehicles that may need more space to navigate (please see the site map). It’s recommended that vehicles towing smaller trailers also use these overflow parking areas to back in and unhitch. Please keep the drivethrough loop clear at all times for maintenance vehicles and other guests. Please note that absolutely no parking can occur along Wedal Road – all vehicles must enter the property and park on site.

What are the restroom facilities like?

Wedal Woods offers two comfortable and spacious outhouse facilities that serve the Pods. Each privy is conveniently located within close proximity to the Pods, just a short walk from the front door. Hand sanitizer is provided. Please put nothing but human waste and toilet paper into the privvys.

Please note there are no showers at this time. However, our close proximity to Lake Superior offers several public beaches nearby that are great for wading and swimming.

Navigation and precautions

Wedal Woods is private property, and all hiking and access to the features of the property are undertaken at your own risk – as they would in any other recreational area in the State of Wisconsin. Neither Wedal Woods nor any of its members nor agents are responsible for any liability associated with staying on the property, regardless of whether such liability is incurred by a guest or any of such guest’s invitees to the property. Each guest understands that the property includes varied – uneven and potentially slippery – terrain and is frequented by wildlife.

Because ground conditions can vary and be affected by temperature and moisture, the following are recommended to aid enjoyment of the woods and terrain:

  • Appropriate footwear
  • Staying on the main trails
  • Hiking poles
  • Insect repellent (mosquitoes and ticks live here too!)
  • Staying hydrated
